Greetings From Our New Minister

It is now official. My name plate is on the door and Connie has given me a set of keys. Yet, I am aware that I have a whole lot of settling in to do. As I sit in the church office, boxes of books are partially unpacked and some of the desk drawers are yet to be opened. Your minister’s office may look like it is completely disorganized, but I assure you that it will soon look like an office again.

The calendar on the bulletin board above the desk tells me that Lent and Easter are quickly on the way.  As a time of personal reflection about our relationship with God, Lent is a traditional time to learn more about living out our faith as Christians. The Elders will soon be choosing a topic for this year’s Lenten study so watch for more information in the bulletin and in the next newsletter. Also, I’d like to invite youth and adults who are interested in being baptized to join me for a church membership class. The class will meet every week during Lent. At the end of that time, those who desire to join the church will make their confession of faith on Palm Sunday and be baptized on Easter. If you are interested, please call the church office.

I am very excited about sharing ministry with you. I plan to be in the office Monday through Thursday, with Friday as my day off. Please feel free to drop in and say hello. I’ll see you Sunday!

Glad to be your minister,

Amanda

WEEK OF COMPASSION OFFERING

Since 1946, the Week of Compassion offering has given North American Christians the opportunity to become participants in humanitarian work that expresses God’s love to neighbors far and wide— not  just to victims of the major disasters that saturate the media, but to victims of “disasters” that repeat themselves each and every day:  disasters of extreme poverty and chronic hunger, of terminally unclean water and nonexistent sanitation, of terrorizing war and devastating loss.

Gifts to Week of Compassion support programs that help our neighbors around the world build lives and communities that are healthy, safe and sustainable, making a huge difference in the lives of millions of families.

Special envelopes for the Week of Compassion offering  will be provided in the bulletin February 18th. Please give generously!

Chili Cook-Off

FYG is sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off at First Presbyterian Church on March 18, 2007, at at 4:00 p.m. We are asking  twelve people to bring in their favorite kettle of chili for the youth to sample and decide who has the best recipe. After the winner is selected, we will all eat a bowl of chili! Tickets are $5 and proceeds will help support youth activities. Please join us for a fun evening of good food and fellowship!

Notify the church office if you would like to make chili for the event.

Step Up To The Microphone!

The combined youth groups of First Christian and First Presbyterian (FYG), are sponsoring a talent show on February 25, 2007, at 6:00 pm. The event will be held at First Christian Church, with an invitation extended to the congregation of First Presbyterian. Tickets are $5.00 and proceeds will help supplement the cost of youth activities.

We have many talented persons in the church!  Are you a musician, singer, dancer, or comedian? Now is your chance to get on stage and perform. This could be a solo act, or a group.

This event cannot not happen without your participation! A sign up sheet is  located on the  bulletin board at the back of the Sanctuary.  Bonnie also needs assistance with coordinating the event.

Invite Everyone: friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, & people you meet to worship at first christian church at 10:10 AM ON SUNDAYS
